| Fall 2010 Flag Football 11-22-10: Well, it was a great season with all the teams pretty evenly matched. It seemed more than half the games came down to the last possession! Congratulations to Hotel Hustla$ for edging League Champs in the final game of the season for the championship! Amazing finish as Hotel Hustla$ stopped League Champs on fourth down, drove down the field to score, and down by one, they went for the two point conversion and the win, and got it! With only second left, League Champs was driving down the field and Hotel Hustla$ made the interception to seal the game on their 20 yard line. ________________________________________ 11-15-10: Two very close games highlighted our seventh week “Semi-Finals” in the flag football league. The first game had a back and forth shoot-out where League Champs survived with a focus on avoiding the big turnover and triple covering Fumble This’s big play receivers. Roadrunners, who had a few key players missing, put up a great effort to stay with Hotel Hustla$ until the end of the game. The only score through the first half was a defensive pick six! We look forward to the last and final week where we have another two great matchups! The third place game will be at 3pm and the championship game will be at 4pm.

________________________________________ 11-09-10: Well, after two rotations and 6 games played, we have two teams at 4-2 and two teams at 2-4. Interestingly, we have had several victories from the 2-4 teams over the 4-2 teams. Overall, it has been a tight game with very few blowout victories. To illustrate that fact, Hotel Hustla$ who came into the sixth week in last place took down the #1 seeded League Champs team in one of the few blowout losses of the season! Ultimately, it was a great day of football with some highlight reel catches.

11-01-10: An awesome set of Halloween games all within one touchdown of each other took place this week. It was highlighted by the last game of the day where it came down to the last plays. League Champs decided to go for two points and the win after their last play as time expired got them within 1 point. Courtney sealed the victory with the catch. After a long weekend, props to those who went out to Dos Gringos after the game!

After a quick adjustment to our new surroundings, everybody settled in. We had our first blow-out this week with Roadrunners putting together a complete game with their female players racking up over 100 yards receiving. In the second game, we had another close finish that wasn’t resolved until the last 30 seconds with Courtney coming through in the clutch at QB. Following the games, many headed up to Dos Gringos for some post-game refreshments.

Both games were within a touchdown and came down to the last two minutes of the game. We had several interceptions returned for a touchdown and 6 plays of over 40 yards! All teams in our league are now locked at 1-1 after two games! Following the games, many headed up to Dos Gringos for some post-game refreshments.

In Flag Football, we had all of our games end up within a touchdown and each game went down to the last few minutes. It is clear that all the teams are pretty equal so it should lead to an awesome fun and level season! 5-02-10: Despite the windy conditions, it was a great end to the season this past weekend! The last week was highlighted by two games that came down to the last possessions. Buckeye Backers fought back to defeat the Hawks and won the league based on head to head tiebreakers. Coming in second was Hotel Hustla$ who destroyed Who Dat to solidify their place as runner-ups. Deep Threat beat a tough GTL team who was contending for the title to complete an excellent season. We look forward to seeing everyone get together at the end of the season at the open bar!

Amazingly, we have four teams tied for first place and five teams out of the eight that still have a chance to win the league (Desert Hawks, Hotel Hustla$, GTL, Deep Threat, and Buckeye Backers). Surely it looks like it could be a tie-breaker like head-to-head performance that could decide the league championship…This week was highlighted by some circus interceptions and amazing quarterback play. The game of the week was clearly the Deep Threat & Desert Hawks going at it (despite some great sportsmanship) who both have a chance to win the league. We look forward to seeing everyone get together at the end of the season at the open bar party in a few weeks!

Currently, there are four teams tied for second place and only one game behind the league leaders Buckeye Backers. This week was highlighted by a comeback victory for Hotel Hustla$ and a tough close win by Deep Threat. Unbelievable interceptions seemed to change the momentum of several games that seemed well in-hand. It is also great to see people keep quenching their thirst after the games at the bar! As a reminder, we still have tons of free Cliff Bars we want to give away before the end of the season, so stop by our registration desk to get some grub!

The offensive play continues to rise each week highlighted by the Desert Hawks 36 points. Although, the Sargonauts had a scheduling conflict and had to forfeit, we were able to round up some league employees and some members from the games before who were willing to play a doubleheader for an officiated scrimmage. What a game! It came down to the last seconds as Who Dat’s defense held at the goal line for the win. Additionally, our league was able to raise a little money for charity due to some Gatorade, Water, and Seed purchases at our registration desk. It was a rematch of last season’s finals when Smack My Pitch Up beat Looking to Score 9-6. This year, Smack My Pitch Up rolled out to a 5-2 lead after 5 innings and seemed to be coasting to victory, but with an offensive explosion and a long two out rally Looking to Score took the lead in the top of the sixth inning and completed a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the 7th to win the championship 9-6. Ironically, it was the same score as the final last year. With some new potentially strong teams (on paper) already on the waiting list, who knows if we could see a rematch again to decide a rubber match? The rivalry is almost the Kickball version of Celtics/Lakers with the matches 3-3 in games and 1-1 in championships. We know there are some people on the free agent teams Slim Kickings and Kick Tease who plan to start their own competitive teams to give them a “social” run for their money J

Feel free to send any players from your teams to play in the all-star game. If you were in the shout-outs at all this season you are invited and you are an all-star! If you feel that the league messed up and you should have been, talk to us and you are probably in (if we like you)! Additionally, we will have a home run derby contests (male & female winner). Furthest kicks (including roll) wins with a max of two attempts and a teammate pitching.

________________________________________ 11-09-10: One of the best weeks of Kickball this league has ever had! First, we had a competitive matchup of the top two ranked teams where Looking To Score, evened the score, and has now split their two games with Smack My Pitch Up! Due to aggregate scores of the first two games, Smack My Pitch Up will remain ranked as the top seed for our upcoming playoffs. Sunday ended with one of the best games in league history. Kick Tease & Slim Kickins played 9 innings (they were about to shut-off the lights on us!). The game was tied 6-6 after 6 innings and 7-7 after regulation. Kick Tease went up 11-7, but then just as hope was fading away, a grand-slam with a close play at the plate where the ball just missed two runners. The game ended 15-12 after 9 innings with Kick Tease victorious. ***************************************** Spring 2010 Kickball 5-02-10: It was an awesome end to the season despite the crazy wind! The weekend was highlighted by the Championship Game where Smack My Pitch Up overcame a 6-2 deficit to win in the late innings 9-6. Additionally, Green Wave scored 7 runs in their last inning of the season to try to make a historic comeback, but fell short against a tough Kick Tease team with strong pitching by Jill. LMB’s continued their amazing late season run with a good win over One Kick Wonders. We look forward to having an awesome party with all of you coming up!

Two out of the three teams who won this week got revenge and split their season series. No team scored more than 6 runs, a season low, and all games were within 5 runs. After a comeback victory by Looking To Score, they have put themselves into the finals against Smack My Pitch Up who were already scouting for next week’s matchup. It should be an interesting final! LMB’s finished the league placing just outside the finals despite a great victory against Smack My Pitch Up getting revenge from an earlier 7-5 loss. They just started their run a little too late in the season and will be fighting for third place. Kick Tease had their best performance of the year with a victory over the tough One Kick Wonders team getting revenge from an earlier defeat in the first week of the season. In one of our closer leagues, no team is more than two games out of first place (everyone has lost twice or has at least won twice)!

04-18-10: The fifth week was a hot one as we started the finishing stretch of the this season. Of course, we wouldn’t even have anymore remaining games if it never rainedJ. There were some great individual performances this past Sunday highlighted by the dormant leg of Brian leading Smack My Pitch Up to victory with his kicking. Amazingly, at this late point in the season, there is a 4-way tie for third place where only a couple points separate the leaders from the back of the pack. All reports show another great after-game happy hour session at the bar!

The wind really messed up Green Wave’s all-star pitching as they let up 11 runs as LMB’s shut them down with unbelievable defense in the outfield. 11-12-10: The first round of the "post-season" started off with some great games. Dig Our Balls put a scare into the number one seed Cornfed on a windy night with tough conditions in the second game winning 25 points. Multiple Touches moved up to fifth place with a 2-1 victory over Hotel Hustla$ and Body Shots outlasted Sets on a Beach with an unbelievable match where Body Shots won the crucial first game 31-29. The finals are set with Cornfed playing Body Shots! Every other team also has matches. Ultimately, there was some great play this past week despite unseasonably cold and windy conditions...can't wait to see the action in the last week. The first round of the "playoffs" are attached to this email and on the website with seeds next to the teams name. There was a really tight group fighting for the second, third, and fourth seeds. Sets on a Beach and Hotel Hustla$ won tiebreakers due to head to head wins. Cornfed lost their first game this season and will look to get it going again next week. The night featured two matches that were tied 1-1 going into the decisive third match. Each team that lost the first game ended up fighting back for a 2-1 victory. A bunch of games had teams fight off one game point after another as well...awesome! Currently, the majority of the teams are in a close battle for the second seed with Cornfed at a comfortable lead early in the season. Sets on a Beach has looked to recapture some of their old championship form with a solid victory. Hotel Hustla$ won their second in a row after a rough first week. 10-08-10: Awesome weather, clear, dry and cool. Some awesome comebacks, close games, and amazing plays that may be in the top 10 plays of the season! The night was highlighted by Dig Our Balls staging a large comeback in the first game against Sets on a Beach winning 26-24. Also, Hotel Hustla$ Sam closed out a game with 8 straight service points to complete their comeback in the second game to clinch the victory. Although they didn't win a game after winning all 3 the first week, Body Shots started strong and was competitive through the first half of each game. After the games ended, most people stayed for a little extra casual volleyball and then headed off to the bar where a large portion of the league stayed out Thursday night until about at least 9:45pm and we hope it continues throughout the whole season! 10-01-10: Well, it was nice and steamy for opening night, but we had some great games as everyone worked off the summer rust! Despite unseasonably warm conditions, we saw some awesome points with several ridiculous digs, serves, dives, and sets. Hotel Hustlas & Body Shots had the first game of the season go into "overtime" with a dramatic win by 2 (23-21) first game that set the tone for Body Shots. Most of the games ended slightly early, not uncommon for the first week with some shorter points, so most people immediately left for the Tilted Kilt bar where we had free drinks for everyone and some awesome happy hour specials on food etc. A few people stayed back to play some 4 on 4...A large portion of the league stayed out Thursday night until about at least 9:30pm and we hope it continues. The social aspect of our leagues is one of the drivers that keeps people coming back... The league gave out drink tickets to the whole league to celebrate the end of the season at Sandbar so they could drink for free! A little taste for what is coming up at the end-of-season open bar party! Congratulations to CORNFED for winning the league and becoming the first team to not drop a set in league history. Despite several games where they were points away from losing a set they continued to fight back including one last night after being down 10-1. Additionally, the night was highlighted by the last set of the season where Dig Deep took down Spikin’ Sallys 22-20 to clinch second place! Although each match resulted in a sweep for one team, many of the matches were very competitive highlighted by several comebacks. After a great turnout at the courts, many members headed off to the bar again to continue the fun after the games. 9-23-09: Opening day on Wednesday night was awesome! Not only did we have 8 teams participate in some awesome games, we had about 85% of our league go to our designated happy hour bar (Sandbar) where the league provided each member with one free drink and about 8 free appetizer platters to welcome you to the league. League members played ping-pong, video games, and socialized for hours after the game despite having to go to work on Thursday!

We continued to have a great turnout at our designated happy hour bar (Sandbar) where the league had great drink specials and tons of food was ordered. Members played corn-hole/bag-toss, ping-pong, and some stayed as late as 11:00 PM. If you are one of the few that hasn’t come out after the games yet…try to make an effort to show up next week, even if it’s just for 30 minutes!

Every single team won at least 1 of the 3 games played in four tightly contested matches. Many of the 8pm games continued to play well past 9pm with some informal pick-up volleyball. Everyone in the league has now won at least 20% of their games highlighting some great social volleyball competition. Interestingly, in most of the matches, the team that lost the first game actually won the match. No one stayed past 9pm for some extra v-ball this night because of the wind & cold, but there was still another good showing at Sandbar for the post-game festivities! It’s never too cold for a beer after a sand volleyball game. Also, many of you signed up for VASL’S SUNS NIGHT OUT…so we look forward to a great Friday night in December! We had a couple of large tables filled with league members at Sandbar after the games taking advantage of the drink specials and watching the end (unfortunately) of the World Series.
